The Lost & Free
04:50
|
|||
"You!" they cry
"Get your dirty boots outta here,
Can't you see we're laughing at the
things we do not understand?"
They miss a tiny wagtail
landing on my broken hand.
"So" they say
"Haven't you got somewhere to be?"
No words. Three days from Cleeve to Drunken Dock.
We've all got so much more to learn.
My love sits on the riverbank
heart wheeling with a tern.
Two hundred miles from source to sea
My mumbled, rambling poetry
The Evenlode, The Fleet, The Lea
Or you and I, the lost, the free
There he goes!
The devil on a flat bottomed barge.
Turns his back on Godstow.
Brewing mud molasses slow
This love of mine, this love of mine
sings softly to a crow.
Now it's time,
We're heading out as soon as it's dark.
The shadowing is easy
My soul the kite, and yours the erne,
When we have the river
We just know which way to turn
Two hundred miles from source to sea
My mumbled, rambling poetry
The Evenlode, The Fleet, The Lea
Or you and I, the lost, the free

Desire
04:27
|
|||
Words are the last thing on my mind
Raising the curtain to an empty stage
My strange friends and I are the curious kind
If you don't desire
If you don't desire
If you don't desire the ending, then burn the page

Back To You
04:53
|
|||
I’ve got to find my way back down this lonely road
The night advances much too quickly now
We have to try and save what time can still erode
A mountaineer is hanging by a vow
The lamps have been extinguished since there’s no-one left to guide
The one who jumps still has the finest view
If I manage to escape from here I’ll never leave your side
I’ve got to find my way back to you
Like a wise man knows just how foolish he’s been
The strangest things I’ve learned about I’ve never really seen
This morning was a nightmare while tonight is still a dream
I’ve got to find my way back to you
The maps were all made into kites and soaked in paraffin
Then launched ablaze together from the park
It was such a great idea, the trouble we were in
didn’t seem apparent til it was dark
When I see you baby I’ll just trip into your eyes
And fall head over heels inside the blue
You always were the one who would see right through this disguise
I’ve got to find my way back to you

Worries
05:44
|
|||
If I’m dragging my heels today
More downtrodden than I usually seem
My boots are stuck in the mire
and I’m done with working somebody elses dream
Got to have it all
They said
Never drop the ball
They said
How’d ya get out of your head?
When it’s shouting
I got all the worries in the world
I got all the worries in the world
This life’s an oyster with no pearl
And all the worries in the world
There’s a goon in a white lie suit
radio screaming our problems have hardly begun
The Queen’s drunk on rotten fruit
While the moon dies weeping in the arms of the sun
They’ll know when.you’re asleep my friend
They’ll know when you’re awake again
And you’re the one that’s telling them
I got all the worries in the world
I got all the worries in the world
This life’s an oyster with no pearl
And all the worries in the world
We are not alone tonight
We won’t go without a fight
Forget the lies they’re telling you
Let’s build something new
We’ve got all the worries in the world
We’ve got all the worries in the world
We stand together, flag unfurled
with all the worries in the world
I got all the worries in the world
I got all the worries in the world
This life’s an oyster and you’re the pearl
With all the worries in the world

Glitterlung
03:24
|
|||
I recognised a face there in the crowd
tears behind a veil
A laugh inside a sigh
The echo of a thousand hearts forlorn
Wind without a sail
Or is it applause, is it mine?
I know that I am sick
But I'll be fine
I'm always fine
It's just a case of glitterlung this time
We built these diamond castles just to hide behind
but only ever wanted to be free
When I arrived here lost, I found my home
Thanks to you ,there's nothing left to see
I know that I am sick
But I'll be fine
I'm always fine
It's just a case of glitterlung this time
The whole point was we didn't care what dawn would bring
What on earth made you think we'd want to see the sun?
We'd rather die of glitterlung
Sometimes these days I find it hard to breathe
I bare my soul before I ask your name
The air is thick with stars flung from my hand
Turn up all the lights and let me shine
I know that I am sick
But I'll be fine
I'm always fine
It's just a case of glitterlung
I know that I am sick
But I'll be fine
I'm always fine
It's just a case of glitterlung
I know that I am sick
But I'll be fine
We'll all be fine
It's just a case of glitterlung this time
What on earth made you think we'd want to see the sun?
We'd rather die of glitterlung

The only thing that passes here is time
Baking in the heat
Shadows on the run
Chasing the horizon down the line
The only thing that passes here is time
Don't go weaving me too deep into your dreams
Your chequered counterpane will never feel the same
If you watch my world through eyeglasses of green
You have woven me too deep into your dreams
The moon is swollen and staring
Drowning in a slingshot of stars
And you are a whole hemisphere away
I am past caring
Burying those memories of ours
It's high time someone new was led astray
A promise that you knew I couldn't keep
We built a world of lies for someone else's sake
Sailed ten thousand miles so I could break
A promise that you knew I couldn't keep
The moon is swollen and staring
Drowning in a slingshot of stars
And you are a whole hemisphere away
I am past caring
Burying those memories of ours
It's high time someone new was led astray
What do you say?
Oh, Don't you go forgetting that I'm gone
'cause I will haunt your dreams
'til the dawn that never comes
From the bottom of the silent Serpentine
Where the only thing that passes
the only thing that passes
the only thing that passes here is time

god, oil, money
04:20
|
|||
Folks point at their neighbour, "you don't belong"
Ask the same old question, "where are you really from?"
Nothing like that matters to me and my friends
Love is where we start, love's where we end
This big blue marble is cracked right to its core
When the TV turns you off that doesn't stop the war
Does anybody understand what all this fighting's for?
It's in the name of god, oil or money
Folks point at their neighbour, "you don't belong"
Ask the same old question, "where are you really from?"
Nothing like that matters to me and my friends
Love is where we start, love's where we end
A journey brings a thousand years of stories to the street
Ragged, weary bones and hearts of hope longing to meet
Anyone, just someone who will join with them to weep
For something more than god, oil or money
Folks point at their neighbour, "you don't belong"
Ask the same old question, "where are you really from?"
Nothing like that matters to me and my friends
Love is where we start, love's where we end

If I Loved You
07:39
|
|||
If I loved you,
Time and again I would try to say
All I'd want you to know.
If I loved you,
Words wouldn't come in an easy way
Round in circles I'd go!
Longin' to tell you,
But afraid and shy,
I'd let my golden chances pass me by!
Soon you'd leave me,
Off you would go in the mist of day,
Never, never to know how I loved you
If I loved you.

The Ice Fisher King
06:21
|
|||
The ice fisher king
is a tall tall tale, like
the whale in the storm
And the joker within
The ice fisher king
came for me when I dreamed
of running away
and I ran into him
The ice fisher king
is behind the door
I gave him my past
I don’t deal in the past
Springtime once forgotten breathes a long frostbitten sigh
Turning my head,
Unpack my shadows
See my reflection. How lost was I?
The ice fisher king
Is lost in the wild
Beckoned by cries
of a tumbledown child
The ice fisher king
Is you, me, them
And won’t go away
when invited in
Springtime once forgotten breathes a long frostbitten sigh
Turning my head,
Unpack my shadows
See my reflection. How lost was I?
